Gong Chen，22 years olds, has been decorative designer for around 2 years.  He designed the landscape along the street in the Luwan District, and participated in the reformation of Sinan French villa. He received the third prize in a design competition recently.

"I have more confidences in myself." Gong Chen said to reporter. He has a lot of passion for painting, although he was failed in college entrance examination. But he still studied arts, then, he entranced to school of Continuing Education to study Interior Design, and got a diploma.

 

       Chen Gong was often asked that was he tired when he became a designer? Chen Gong replied: "I love design, so I don’t feel tired.” Gong Chen loves painting, drawing, watercolor, gouache, oil paintings. He said: “The process of drawing is complex, but you felt pretty happy when it was finished.It is wonderful for Chen Gong to enjoy his job which is in keeping with his hobby and dream. In his childhood, he really likes to copy cotton from some books. He started learning art in Grade Three. At that time, he took part in a painting class, and planed to study design.

 

      After graduating from middle school, Gong Chen was admitted to a vocational school to study interior design. There are many classmates who love art. Gong Chen thought that he is one of diligent students instead of clever one. He felt the time is flying when he is drawing oil painting. He still keeps a painting work (David) which spent his three months to complete.

In 2006, Gong Chen's got achievements in the college entrance examination of fine art. Unfortunately, because of his bad scores of English and math, Gong Chen missed the chance to enter a college. He became frustrated and lost his life goal.

     In August of same year, some failed students selected to study again and plan to enter college entrance examination in next year. Gong Chen’s parents asked, "what’s your plan?” Gong Chen repeated that examination is just one choice, and he didn’t need to do it all again.

 

      Some day, Gong Chen and his friends noticed the introduction of prospectus of interior design of Shanghai Institute of Technology. He realized that this is a learning opportunities, and he decided to apply it immediately.  

Gong Chen studied hard when he started learning interior design. He remembered that a design work took him whole week. What’s more, he really enjoy the school life, especially the library where is the resources of knowledge.

Gong Chen got a diploma in October, 2008. After graduation, he got his first job. He looked back on his interview, and said: my boss was satisfied with his design works which were finished in Shanghai Institute of Technology.

Some people asked Gong Cheng: will you keep being designer forever? He said: yes, I will, because it’s my life. 　

In the company, Gong Chen’s first big project was to do a transformation of street. During that time, he surveyed the Shaanxi Road, Da Pu Road, Madang Road and so on. His design concept was accepted by the customers.

      Gong Chen’s satisfied project is renovation of Sinan villa. There were dozens of buildings which were needed to transform into a French villa hotel. The initial concept was from Hong Kong designer sketches. Gong Chen and his colleagues developed it to be more perfect. He absorbed in this project totally and got an achievement in the end.

Looking back on the process of studying, Gong Chen felt that he chose a right track. Now, compared to the other students who enter college entrance exam again, Gong Chen has been a designer for 2 years. He felt lucky that he did not waste time. His career began, companying with his plan of life in the next 5 years: he will be a registered architect.
